The Play Store has downloaded 9 malicious Android apps 470,000 times masquerading as performance optimization tools. In fact, they had fraudulent access to the accounts of Google and Facebook users. This is what Trend Micro, a Japanese company specializing in cybersecurity, has revealed.
The firm has actually published a post from the Play Store for detecting malware targeting Android users. The tactic used here is pretty pernicious. In reality, the malware hides in applications with names like "Speed Clean" or "Super Clean." In other words, the concept is to imagine being a tool that can optimize your smartphone's performance by cleaning it from certain superfluous files.

Fake apps also ask users to give them permissions while disabling Play Protect, the Google Play Store's protection system. It helps them to access, without being detected, more and more fake apps.
Eventually, to encourage others to download, they can also use accessibility options to post fake reviews and ratings to the Play Store.

Google has removed the affected apps from the Play Store but the malware is likely to restart the attack with other fake apps. China, Taiwan, the United States, Thailand, and India are among the countries most affected.
