Jio promises voice and video calls can switch between the VoLTE and Wi-Fi networks seamlessly.
Reliance Jio unveiled its awaited Wi-Fi calling service on Wednesday to bring voice and video calls over a Wi-Fi network.
Jio has announced the nationwide launch of its Wi-Fi calling service, which is available for voice as well as video calls, after testing it in the last few months. Although, the service will be phased-out until January 16. The Mumbai-based telco says more than 150 smartphone models support the Jio Wi-Fi calling service. This is unlike Airtel's Wi-Fi calling service, which was limited to some big models that companies like Apple, OnePlus, Samsung and Xiaomi offered.Users with an active tariff plan for Jio can take advantage of the Wi-Fi calling service to make voice calls using a Wi-Fi network— even if they are not connected to a mobile network. Jio users can also make video calls using the new service, in addition to making voice calls over a Wi-Fi network. The service is also available at no additional cost, meaning that users do not have to pay an additional amount to make use of their devices ' benefits.
If you are in a remote area or in a building's network-dark zone where cellular networks are not available, the new service is useful. Jio says voice and video calls can move seamlessly between the VoLTE and Wi-Fi networks.
This means that, while their devices switch to a Wi-Fi network to support ongoing calls, users will not face any delay.

How to enable Jio Wi-Fi calling (aka Jio VoWiFi) To use the new service, you need to allow Wi-Fi calling or Voice-over-Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) on your mobile. To do this, first, you need to connect to a Wi-Fi network, then access your phone's Settings menu. Here, depending on the phone's design, you will need to find and activate the Wi-Fi Calling or Wi-Fi call option.

Last month, Jio arch-rival Airtel launched its Wi-Fi calling service in Delhi NCR for its customers. That move made the Delhi-based operator the first telco to bring Wi-Fi call support. It also extended the service's availability to metropolitan cities like Kolkata and Mumbai and expanded its reach to include a list of handsets.
That said, Jio aims to take on Airtel by announcing its Wi-Fi calling service to pan-India rollout. Given the increasing number of network issues in major cities across the country, to some extent, wireless calling comes as a relief. Even so, users need to connect to a Wi-Fi network to take advantage of the new development.Extend your network with Jio Wi-Fi calling.
