The days have gone when you've had to download apps to recharge your phones, now a Google search is going to do the job for you. Google introduced a new feature on Tuesday to help users use Google Search to compare and recharge their prepayment plans. The feature is only available across India for Airtel, Vodafone-Idea, Jio and BSNL users.
The search feature is open only to users of Android who have signed into their Google accounts. You only have to type in Sim Recharge on your Google search bar and it will ask you to fill out your mobile number in the results.
If you've already connected your mobile number to your Gmail account, you'd not need to enter your phone number manually. Google will automatically enter your number and identify your operator, and then give you the option to search through all available plans. Google will redirect you to a page with various payment options available, such as Google Pay, Freecharge, Mobiwik and Paytm, once you pick your preferred plan. If you have any of the above-listed payment wallets and checkout you can enter your details. If you do not have any of the payment wallets, payment can be made through the service provider's app.

However, this feature isn't available to iPhone users and even if you're looking for Sim Recharge on your Google search bar, you don't have the option to check and compare plans. Once it runs the feature successfully in Android, the tech giant could implement the same for iPhone users.
However, one thing that raises the eyebrows is that before entering the registered mobile number on the search bar automatically Google didn't ask for permission.
After seeing Google's very uncalled for promptness the first time users might get a little overwhelmed. This breaches the privacy of users somewhere as many times you don't want to use your number without your permission. However, as long as Google doesn't show your number to a third-party app without your permission, this shouldn't be a concern.
India has more than 1.1 billion cellular connections, of which 95 percent are prepaid connections. Though there are plenty of options for recharging a phone, Google's service can definitely make things simpler and trouble-free.
