The new Augmented Reality feature that was introduced last year as a beta version will now make it available to most users. Specifically, this feature will be a boon to the pedestrian traffic. Essentially, the app can use augmented reality to display the routes in real-time. Using the camera will also give the traveler greater visibility.
The Live View will be enabled with Google Maps as soon as the user starts moving along a walking route. The application combines actual-world imagery, machine learning and mobile sensors from Street View to create an immersive interface. The user will see the overlaid destination on the camera and change routes accordingly. The new feature will work on ARCore and ARKit-supported smart phones.

Google Maps update also receives a redesigned GUI that contains five easily accessible tabs: Explore Commute, Save, Contribute and Update. Explore can help users find local spot information that includes feedback, ratings and more. The commute is aimed towards reducing travel time and increasing the traveler's comfort. The saved tab would allow the user access to more than 6.5 billion places saved by users of Google Maps. This tab also allows one to exchange tips for fellow travelers. Contribute, as the name suggests, offers a shared space where users can send fellow travelers heads up or share pictures about a given situation.
